Steam Turns 20: Enjoy up to 90% Discount on Top Games from Last Two Decades

Sep 12, 2023 10:24 PM

Today, the gaming platform Steam is turning 20, and Valve, the company behind it, is celebrating with a huge sale, discounting titles by up to 90%. In addition to the sale, Valve has curated a list of top-grossing games released each year on Steam, which are also being offered at reduced prices.

Steam was launched in 2004 with the brainchild of creating a platform that would make it easier for Valve to send out game updates and provide game developers a platform to build and connect with their audiences. The first game to go live on Steam was Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, followed by Half-Life 2 and an exciting third-party title, Codename: Gordon, a promotional game for Half-Life 2.

Keeping in touch with evolving needs, Steam introduced various features over the years. These include the screenshot addition feature, Steam Guard, Steam Workshop, trading cards, family sharing, player reviews, and early game launch options for developers. The platform also pushed out the Discovery Update in 2014, added an in-home streaming and broadcasting feature, and introduced SteamVR compatible with the Oculus Rift.

Steam has also collaborated with other companies, like HTC, to release gaming products like the HTC Vive headset. Recently, in 2022, Valve launched the handheld device, Steam Deck.

Happy 20th Birthday, Steam!
