Steam hit Once Human makes all cosmetics accessible after backlash

Jul 12, 2024 11:02 AM

The developer of the popular Steam game Once Human is addressing player backlash regarding the game's cosmetics and mandatory seasonal resets. Starry Studio, owned by Chinese company NetEase, has promised to make purchased cosmetics usable across multiple characters by August and to refund any additional in-game currency spent on duplicate cosmetics. Despite some criticisms, Once Human maintains a significant player base and features like retaining key progress elements through seasons have been highlighted by NetEase to balance gameplay and progression.

What changes are being made to the cosmetics in Once Human?

NetEase has promised that all purchased cosmetics will be accessible across multiple characters on the same account by August. Players who bought the same cosmetic for different characters will be refunded the additional in-game currency spent.

Once Human, a free-to-play multiplayer open-world survival game, quickly gained traction following its PC release on July 9, with nearly 149,000 concurrent players at its peak. Developed by Starry Studio, the game allows players to survive in a post-apocalyptic world with elements of resource gathering, crafting, and combat. Despite privacy concerns and mixed reviews, the game's dynamic gameplay and seasonal resets which introduce new maps and challenges keep players engaged.
