"Slay the Spire Developer Releases Free Game Called Dancing Duelists"

Oct 19, 2023 9:47 AM

Mega Crit, the developer behind the indie hit Slay the Spire, has released a free game called Dancing Duelists. The game, which is a deckbuilder, was created during a three-week game jam in response to the controversy surrounding the Unity engine. Instead, the developers used the Godot engine for this project.

Dancing Duelists, the result of the game jam, is described by its creators as a "deckbuilding autobattler dance-off with a swinging soundtrack". Players can select from various characters, each with a unique card deck, to participate in a dance competition. The player wins when their opponent runs out of Hype Points or the player frees fifty Hype Points. The cards are automatically chosen during the game.

The game can be played for free on itch.io on a PC running Windows, Mac, or Linux. Mega Crit encourages players who want to contribute financially to the game to do so for the Godot engine. The studio asserts that it will not return to the Unity engine despite many controversial decisions being reversed and the departure of CEO John Riccitiello.
