Scalpers Cashing In on Concord After Sony's Surprise Pullback

Sep 04, 2024 2:37 PM

Scalpers are capitalizing on the recent discontinuation of Concord, a hero shooter by Firewalk Studios, following a dismal 11-day release on September 6, 2024. After Sony decided to pull the game amidst low sales, scalpers began listing physical copies at inflated prices, doubling or tripling the original MSRP of $39.99. Despite the initial retail listings, many sellers are seizing the opportunity to sell their unopened copies at prices around $120 to $180, presenting these editions as rare collectibles. As the game's future hangs in the balance, there’s speculation about a potential free-to-play model, but Sony has yet to confirm any plans.

Will Concord become valuable now that it's discontinued?

While Concord's discontinuation may increase its rarity, its future value is uncertain. Given its poor sales performance and the larger digital market, it remains to be seen if collectors will find value in these physical copies.

Concord was in development for nearly a decade and faced challenges upon release that ultimately led to its quick demise. Despite significant investment in its production, poor player engagement hindered its success, prompting Sony's decision to withdraw it from the market. This scenario reflects the volatile landscape of contemporary gaming, where even high-budget projects can struggle to find an audience.
