Robert Downey Jr. Passed on Iron Man Cameo in Deadpool 3

Aug 09, 2024 7:36 PM

Robert Downey Jr. was almost part of the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, with plans for a cameo as Tony Stark. However, due to Marvel's decision, his appearance was cut just before filming. Co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that a scene where Wade Wilson auditions for the Avengers was intended to include Downey, but scheduling conflicts and the upcoming announcement of his portrayal as Doctor Doom complicated his involvement. While Downey did read lines written for him, he ultimately declined. The film still features cameos from many characters, offering fans a rich blend of nostalgia and humor.

Why was Robert Downey Jr.'s cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine cut?

Robert Downey Jr.'s cameo was cut due to Marvel's decision to have him return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, making it confusing to also portray Tony Stark in the same timeframe. Scheduling conflicts and narrative coherence with his new role influenced the final decision.

Deadpool & Wolverine is a continuation of the popular Deadpool franchise, exploring the misadventures of Wade Wilson as he navigates the superhero landscape. Featuring a blend of humor, action, and self-referential commentary about the MCU, the film aims to appeal to long-time fans and newcomers alike. The movie has numerous cameos, showcasing beloved characters from past Marvel films, which enhances its appeal within the superhero genre.
