PlayStation Portal Finally Adds Long-Missing Key Feature

Sony's PlayStation Portal has received a significant update that allows users to connect the handheld device to public Wi-Fi networks. Previously, the PS Portal was limited in its use, primarily functioning within the home or requiring a mobile hotspot. The new update introduces a sign-in screen support feature, enabling users to authenticate via a QR code scan on another device, such as a smartphone or tablet.

While not entirely seamless, this update broadens the PS Portal's usability outside the home. Additional features include enhanced emulated touchpad feedback and the option to display battery percentage on the status bar. Sony also revealed that over 60% of PS Portal owners used Remote Play for the first time, notably engaging with titles like Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok, Fortnite, EA Sports FC24, and Rocket League.

To connect your PlayStation Portal to public Wi-Fi, you need to update your device with the latest firmware. Once updated, the PS Portal will display a QR code for you to scan with a phone or tablet to complete the authentication process for public networks.
