Peacemaker Season 2: Gunn Teases Explosive Continuation

Jul 18, 2024 10:52 AM

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has confirmed that "Peacemaker" Season 2 will start right where Season 1 concluded, albeit with minor changes. The significant shift lies in the transition from the now-defunct DC Extended Universe to Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe. While the DCEU included titles like Justice League and Man of Steel, the refreshed DCU kicks off with animated series "Creature Commandos" in December 2024 and "Superman" on July 11, 2025. Despite these shifts, Gunn assures that John Cena will return as Peacemaker, along with the rest of the cast. There’s speculation that Season 2 may adopt a new title, similar to Disney's "Daredevil: Born Again." Filming has begun, but no release date is announced yet. The series is expected to appear after "Creature Commandos" and "Superman," with events from "Superman" impacting the storyline of "Peacemaker."

How will the new DC Universe affect Peacemaker's story?

James Gunn has stated that while "Peacemaker" will experience minor changes, many story elements from the first season will remain consistent. Additionally, the events of the upcoming "Superman" film will canonically affect Peacemaker's storyline.

As a bit of background, the DC Extended Universe aimed to build a cohesive cinematic universe similar to Marvel's MCU, but it faced criticisms and inconsistencies. The upcoming reboot under Gunn and Safran aims to create a more interconnected and coherent narrative, starting with new projects that promise fresh takes on beloved characters and settings.
