NO REST FOR THE WICKED: WHY WE'RE HOLDING OFF ON RECOMMENDING WARUM.

Apr 20, 2024 6:37 AM

The gaming community is currently buzzing about Moon Studios' latest release, No Rest for the Wicked, which has ventured into dark, diablo-esque territory akin to Dark Souls. While the game launched in Early Access on PC, it struggles with performance issues and has received a mixed response, with nearly 2000 reviews on Steam highlighting multiple concerns. Regulatory performance, a perplexing keyboard control scheme, and an excessively steep difficulty curve have been noted as significant obstacles to enjoying the game. Moreover, the game mandates using a controller, character movement feels excessively slow, and each death degrades your equipment, adding to the challenge. Game crashes, particularly during critical in-game sequences and boss fights, have further tarnished the experience, distracting from the potential depth of combat that includes special attacks and combos.

Menus are currently unintuitive, and while there's a charm to the combination of Diablo-like visuals with the brutal gameplay loop of Dark Souls, it's overshadowed by the game's unpolished state in Early Access, which seems premature. The community is hopeful for a remedy via patches, as the compelling concept deserves attention without being eclipsed by technical issues. However, for now, the advice is to hold off on purchasing until the game receives substantial updates and improvements.

Is No Rest for the Wicked worth buying in Early Access?

Given the current performance issues and the steep learning curve, it may be wise to wait for future patches and updates to improve the overall experience before purchasing No Rest for the Wicked.

No Rest for the Wicked is developed by Moon Studios, the same team behind the critically acclaimed Ori series known for its beautiful art style, fluid mechanics, and emotionally gripping storytelling. However, transitioning from the lush, narrative-driven platforms of the Ori games to an action RPG with a dark fantasy setting is a significant shift. While this move shows the studio's versatility and creative ambition, the rough Early Access launch indicates that balancing and performance tuning are still needed to meet the high expectations set by their previous works.
