Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Doubts Rise for 2024

Nov 05, 2024 10:09 AM

Analysts predict that Nintendo won’t announce the much-anticipated Switch 2 until late 2024, despite the console being in its eighth year with declining sales. Company president Shuntaro Furukawa reiterated that an announcement will be made by the end of the current financial year, which is March 2025. Experts suggest that revealing the new console might distract from current sales, especially during the busy year-end shopping season. In the meantime, Nintendo is focusing on maximizing the existing Switch potential with upcoming exclusive titles like Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

The original Nintendo Switch, released in March 2017, has sold over 125 million units, making it one of the best-selling consoles of all time. The growing anticipation for its successor is fueled by its aging hardware and increasing competition in the gaming market. Nintendo has historically taken a unique approach to console releases, which adds to the excitement and curiosity surrounding the next iteration of the beloved handheld-console hybrid.
