Nintendo is developing a live-action Legend of Zelda movie

Nov 08, 2023 12:05 AM

Nintendo has announced that they are currently in the process of creating a live-action film based on the beloved The Legend of Zelda video game series. The esteemed Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of The Legend of Zelda, is producing the film alongside Hollywood's Avi Arad, a former executive of Marvel Entertainment. The director of the Maze Runner series, Wes Ball, will also be involved, taking on the directing duties for this upcoming project.

Nintendo will be funding over half of the project's budget, while Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle the global distribution and contribute to the remaining finances. Miyamoto has emphasized that Nintendo will be closely involved in the production, which is expected to take some time to complete.

There are no further details on the plot of the Zelda film available at this time. The Legend of Zelda series began on the NES and has since released numerous successful titles, including the recent The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom for the Switch. The announcement comes after the recent box office success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, an animated film produced by Nintendo in collaboration with Illumination Entertainment.
