Aug 22, 2024 3:00 PM

EA Sports has unveiled the first details of NHL 25, set to launch on October 4, 2024. The highlight of this installment is a brand-new gameplay system called "Ice-Q," which enhances player movement and interactions on the ice, enabling options like walking the blue line and effectively engaging with puck carriers. The new "Grudge Match System" will also track player histories in both online and offline modes, introducing unique X-Factors to create heightened gameplay drama. NHL siblings Quinn, Jack, and Luke Hughes, representing the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks, will feature on the cover, having contributed through motion capture sessions for improved in-game animations. Alongside gameplay innovations, Franchise mode will receive significant improvements and updated graphics for a more immersive experience.

What are the main new features in NHL 25?

The main new features in NHL 25 include the "Ice-Q" gameplay overhaul, enhancements to the AI and player reactions, a new "Grudge Match System," an updated Franchise mode, and improved graphics, particularly in player hair and clothing, aiming for a more realistic look.

NHL 25 aims to revitalize the franchise following NHL 24, which received mixed reviews but introduced promising mechanics such as the Exhaust Engine and improved checking systems. The upcoming title looks to build on these mechanics while addressing previous criticisms regarding game modes and wait times, ensuring a richer user experience for hockey enthusiasts.
