Next Zelda not a sequel to Tears of the Kingdom

Eiji Aonuma, the producer of the Zelda series, has indicated that while Tears of the Kingdom built upon the world established in Breath of the Wild, it represents the 'final form' of this version of Zelda, and the team does not plan to create another direct sequel in this setting. Additional details about the upcoming Zelda game remain undisclosed and with Tears of the Kingdom having been released earlier this year, the new game may take several years before any reveals. It is speculated that the new title could launch on the successor to the Nintendo Switch platform. Meanwhile, Nintendo is also developing a live-action adaptation of the Zelda series.

Looks like the Zelda team is ready to cook up a fresh Hyrulean experience that'll take its time simmering on the development stove – probably wise not to expect seconds of Tears of the Kingdom anytime soon. Aonuma is definitely keeping us on our toes, closing the chapter on the Breath of the Wild era with a bang in Tears of the Kingdom. It's exciting to hear that a new Zelda game could possibly usher in the next-gen Nintendo console, but it looks like we'll have to be patient, as that triforce of information is still locked away in Nintendo's dungeon for now.
