The upcoming Mortal Kombat film sequel is generating excitement among fans as new set photos hint at the appearance of Quan Chi, a sinister sorcerer from the franchise. The sequel has been confirmed since early 2022, with the production kicking off in the summer. Notable reveals from the film's set include a glimpse of a pale hand likely belonging to Quan Chi and the iconic belt of Johnny Cage, suggesting their inclusion in the highly-anticipated movie. Jeremy Slater, writer for the soon-to-release Moon Knight and Fantastic 4, is crafting the screenplay, while Simon McQuoid directs. Although an official release date has not been announced, the involvement of these recognisable characters is stirring interest within the gaming community.

Who is set to play Johnny Cage in the new Mortal Kombat film?

Karl Urban is reported to be taking on the role of Johnny Cage in the new Mortal Kombat film.

Mortal Kombat is an iconic media franchise that began with a video game series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The original video game was released in 1992 and quickly became known for its high levels of bloody violence, including the series' signature "Fatalities." The franchise has expanded to include multiple sequels, spin-offs, movies, comics, and even an animated series. Dedicated to martial arts and supernatural conflict, Mortal Kombat's rich lore and colorful characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and now, Quan Chi, have garnered a dedicated fan base over the years and contributed significantly to the fighting genre in video games.

Karl Urban stepping into Johnny Cage's shades is pretty rad – he's got the charisma for it, plus seeing Quan Chi's pale hand means we're diving deeper into the lore. Slater penning the script has me hopeful for a knockout storyline that's as punchy as the franchise's Fatalities

Looks like the Mortal Kombat sequel is upping the ante with fan-favorites like Quan Chi and Johnny Cage—Karl Urban's portrayal of Cage is going to be a flawless victory for casting, if you ask me. The franchise's expansion from arcade screens to movie screens just proves the flawless longevity and appeal of those legendary Fatalities and rich lore.
