Never played Dragon's Dogma Jump straight into sequel

Jan 16, 2024 5:10 PM

For fans eagerly anticipating "Dragon's Dogma 2," the game's director Hideaki Itsuno has some good news: players new to the franchise won't need to be familiar with the original "Dragon's Dogma" to enjoy the sequel. Itsuno emphasized that newcomers will have no trouble following the story as the protagonist begins the game with amnesia, allowing fresh players to start on an even footing. The launch is set for March 22 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Steam platforms. "Dragon's Dogma" first released in May 2012, and since then, it has garnered a cult following with its expanded version, "Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen," available on multiple platforms including PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. In 2020, the franchise was also adapted into a seven-episode animated series by Netflix. In "Dragon's Dogma 2", players can expect 'pawns', AI companions who aid in combat, designed to create a co-op gaming experience within a single-player game. Extensive gameplay was released earlier this month, further heightening expectations for the sequel.

What is the release date for Dragon's Dogma 2?

The release date for "Dragon's Dogma 2" is set for March 22.

"Dragon's Dogma," developed by Capcom, is an action role-playing game that debuted in 2012. It's really cool to see Dragon's Dogma staying true to its roots by ensuring accessibility for newcomers without prior knowledge of the lore -- a clever narrative choice with the amnesia angle. Also, the hype around the gameplay release shows that Capcom understands how to keep its cult following excited, and the continuity of the 'pawn' system is a neat way to foster that familiar co-op vibe within the solo adventure.
