NEVE CAMPBELL SET TO REPRiSE ROLE iN SCREAM 7

Mar 12, 2024 6:25 PM

The highly anticipated horror sequel Scream 7 has made headlines again as Neve Campbell confirms her return as Sidney Prescott. Fans of the slasher franchise will be thrilled to hear that Kevin Williamson, writer of the first, second, and fourth Scream movies, will step into the director's chair for this installment. In addition, Guy Busick, known for his work on the fifth and sixth films, joins as screenwriter while James Vanderbilt focuses on other projects. Radio Silence, who directed the successful 2022 reboot and Scream 6, are still involved as executive producers.

Campbell's announcement comes after her departure from Scream 6 following a salary dispute and reports last year suggesting filmmakers were keen to bring her back. With Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera not joining the cast of Scream 7, details about the storyline have been kept under wraps, and a release date is yet to be announced. Christopher Landon, who had taken the director's role, stepped down amidst growing controversy around the movie, making room for Williamson's directorial debut in the Scream series.

When will Scream 7 be released?

As of the latest update, a release date for Scream 7 has not been announced.

The Scream franchise, which began in 1996 with the release of the original Scream directed by Wes Craven, has since become a cult classic, carving its niche in the horror genre with a blend of satire, mystery, and brutal scares. The series is known for its meta-commentary on horror movie tropes and the slasher subgenre, while also delivering genuinely thriling plots and memorable characters. With Neve Campbell reprising her role as Sidney Prescott, the upcoming sequel promises to be a nostalgic homecoming for long-time fans and a fresh take under the guidance of a seasoned writer turned first-time Scream director, Kevin Williamson.
