Mortal Kombat 1 PC Patch Boosts Fatality Scenes to 60fps

Jun 19, 2024 2:24 PM

Mortal Kombat 1 has released a new patch that removes the 30fps cap for cutscenes on PC, allowing them to run at 60fps. This update also includes various character fixes and adjustments. Initially, cutscenes were capped at 30fps to enhance their visual quality, but players found the switch between 60fps gameplay and 30fps cutscenes disruptive. The new setting is recommended for high-end PC setups and won't affect pre-rendered movies or online matches. This patch is also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, featuring fixes for several characters, including the newly added DLC character Homelander. Additionally, NetherRealm has delayed the launch of the Kameo character Ferra to coincide with Takeda's release on July 23. Future DLC plans for Mortal Kombat 1 remain unannounced, although there are hints of more content, such as the possible inclusion of Ghostface from the Scream franchise. The Mortal Kombat 2 movie is set to premiere on October 24, 2025.

Why was the 30fps cap initially set for Mortal Kombat 1 cutscenes?n

The 30fps cap was initially implemented to create flashier cutscenes. However, this created a jarring experience for players switching between 60fps gameplay and 30fps cutscenes.

Mortal Kombat 1, the latest installment from NetherRealm Studios, continues the legacy of the iconic fighting game series that began in 1992. Known for its brutal and visually stunning Fatalities, the franchise has consistently pushed the boundaries of fighting game mechanics and storytelling. This installment not only evolves its combat systems but also introduces a mix of returning characters and new faces, ensuring a fresh experience for veterans and newcomers alike. The addition of guest characters such as Homelander and potential future additions like Ghostface keeps the roster exciting and diverse.
