Minecraft to Drop PlayStation VR Support in 2024

Sep 19, 2024 12:41 PM

Minecraft has announced that it will discontinue support for PlayStation VR starting from March 2025. Mojang revealed this significant update through a blog post, which stated that any PlayStation version of the game updated after this date will not be compatible with PSVR. While the reason for this decision was not explicitly provided, it comes in light of Sony's shift towards the PlayStation VR2, released in February 2023. Players will still be able to enjoy Minecraft without VR but will lose the ability to use PSVR features with future updates.

What will happen to my Minecraft experience on PlayStation after VR support ends?

After the end of PlayStation VR support, players will still be able to play Minecraft and access their worlds and Marketplace purchases like Tokens, but the PSVR functionality will no longer be available in subsequent updates.

It's worth noting that the announcement comes amid mixed reactions to a forthcoming Minecraft movie featuring live-action elements and real actors like Jack Black and Jason Momoa, which some fans criticized. The game, initially released in 2009 by Mojang, has since become a cultural phenomenon with millions of players worldwide. The discontinuation of PSVR support may push the community to seek alternative VR experiences or adjustments on new hardware.
