Oct 16, 2023 5:06 PM

In a landmark announcement, it was revealed during the latest Minecraft Live live-stream that the beloved voxel-building videogame, Minecraft, has sold more than 300 million copies worldwide. Established in 2011, this iconic title has now officially become the highest-selling game of all time, surpassing the likes of Grand Theft Auto 5, which reports indicate has sold over 185 million copies.

The live-stream event also showcased features of the upcoming update 1.21, set for release midway through next year. Notable additions include an autonomous crafting system via a newly introduced Crafter, and the introduction of Trial Chambers - procedurally generated underground spaces teeming with exciting challenges. Players will now have to contend with a brand-new foe that leaps and fires explosive wind blasts upon impact.

The Minecraft Live event provided a preview of Star Wars: Path of the Jedi, a Minecraft Expansion arriving November 7. This forthcoming update enables players to ascend from Padawans to Jedi Knights. In 2024, Minecraft players can anticipate an immersive nature experience with the release of the Planet Earth 3 DLC.

Minecraft Legends, a subseries within the franchise, also had its upcoming content revealed. The new event, Lost Legends, features the Creeper Clash launching on October 19, followed by Snow vs Snout.

Minecraft continues to captivate its audience with its incredible blend of creativity, exploration, and adventure. These extensive updates reiterate the developers' commitment to enhancing the player experience, ensuring Minecraft's star continues to shine in the gaming universe.
