MCU Book Officially Fixes Spider-Man Homecoming Timeline Error
Oct 26, 2023 2:03 PMA new Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline book has clarified a major continuity error from 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, a point of longstanding discussion amongst fans. The book, titled "Marvel Studios' The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline," corrects the plot hole by confirming that Spider-Man: Homecoming takes place four years post-Avengers and not eight as originally indicated
This inconsistency was noticed because Homecoming begins immediately after the Battle of New York, the climax of The Avengers in 2012, but then incorrectly positions the primary events of Homecoming in 2020 instead of the correct year, 2016. The book eliminates the eight-year time jump and verifies that the initial flashback scene takes place in "Spring 2012" and the rest of the movie takes place in "Fall 2016"
Moreover, the book employs Loki's Miss Minutes to explain the error which also includes a line of dialogue from Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture, stating his criminal operation has gone unnoticed for "eight years." The sentient clock attributes this discrepancy to a missing TVA case file
Overall, fans seem pleased with the explanation. The book, available in both Kindle and Hardback formats, was released on October 24
