The first trailer for Disney+'s new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series, Echo, was released, featuring a darker, grittier tone reminiscent of Netflix's Marvel series, with Vincent D'Onofrio reprising his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin

Echo stars Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo, a character first introduced in Hawkeye as a Deaf gang leader pursuing Ronin, or Clint Barton

The series is noticeably violent, showing scenes of brutal combat, gunfights, and graphic injuries, marking it out as more akin to Daredevil than recent MCU shows like Loki or Ms Marvel

Furthermore, Echo is the first Marvel Studios-produced TV series to receive a TV-MA rating

According to Disney, the series traces Maya's journey as she confronts her past, rekindles her Native American heritage, and learns about the importance of family and community

Notably, Echo will be the first MCU series to have all its episodes released simultaneously rather than in a weekly format, with the complete first season arriving on Disney+ on January 10

In a recent development, Disney announced that Echo will also be streamed on Hulu on the same day, but it will only remain on the platform until April 9

This news comes shortly after Disney's confirmation that it would become the sole owner of Hulu, having purchased the remaining stakes from Comcast for approximately $8.5 billion
