mark hamill joins spongebob movie as the flying dutchman

Jul 25, 2024 9:23 PM

Mark Hamill, known for his roles as Luke Skywalker and The Joker, announced at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2024 that he will voice The Flying Dutchman in the upcoming film, "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants." This will be the fourth SpongeBob SquarePants movie, slated for release on December 19, 2025. Hamill joined the panel alongside cast members like Tom Kenny (SpongeBob) and Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), revealing that his character will be "one of the most popular villains in SpongeBob history." This is not Hamill's first time in the SpongeBob universe, as he previously voiced The Moth in an episode. The announcement has left fans curious about the future of long-standing Dutchman voice actor Brian Doyle-Murray.

Will Mark Hamill be the permanent voice of The Flying Dutchman?

It is currently unclear if Mark Hamill will permanently replace Brian Doyle-Murray as the voice of The Flying Dutchman. Nickelodeon has not yet commented on this potential change.

SpongeBob SquarePants first aired in 1999 and has become a cultural icon, particularly among younger audiences. The series, created by marine science educator and animator Stephen Hillenburg, features the adventures of SpongeBob and his friends in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. The popularity of the show has led to multiple films, including the upcoming "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants," which promises to bring new adventures and familiar faces to the big screen.
