Like a Dragon shines with unique Steam record, trails Palworld

Jan 29, 2024 10:53 AM

The recent game Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth might not be attaining the monumental success of crossover hit Palworld on Steam, but it's making waves in its own right. Last week saw the title achieve a record-breaking peak for the series with 46,161 concurrent players on Steam. This figure outstrips the previous series entries significantly, such as last year's Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name which peaked at 13,737, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the first game featuring the current protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, at 9,535 players.

The game has been received positively by critics and fans, praised for its gameplay and narrative, although there has been some discontent regarding the handling of downloadable content (DLC), most notably the decision to lock the new game plus feature behind a paywall. Despite these concerns, the player response remains largely favorable, with its performance on Steam indicative of the series' growing popularity, especially among PC gamers. However, with Palworld's staggering sales figures, it's unlikely that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will surpass its record on Steam anytime soon.

Is Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth a worthy entry in the Yakuza series?

Yes, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is considered a worthy entry in the Yakuza series, achieving a high peak of concurrent players on Steam and garnering positive reviews for its content and gameplay, although some criticism has been directed at its DLC practices.

Background Information: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is part of the Yakuza game series, known as Ryu ga Gotoku in Japan, which is a series of action-adventure games created by Sega. The series started in 2005 and gained a cult following due to its deep storylines, engaging characters, and open-world exploration mixed with beat 'em up mechanics. The series took a turn in gameplay with Yakuza: Like a Dragon by introducing turn-based RPG mechanics, a new direction that has been continued with the new protagonist Ichiban Kasuga.
