The latest PlayStation 5 firmware update (version 23.02-08.40.00) brings enhanced security and performance improvements to Sony's flagship console. This update introduces several security enhancements to the system software and aims to stabilize its operation. Additionally, usability improvements have been made to certain screens in the operating system. Following the major system update in September that added Dolby Atmos support and the option for a second controller on the same account, this update continues to refine the PS5 experience for users.

Alongside this update, Sony has released two new PS5 models which are smaller, lighter, and feature a detachable disk drive, allowing for flexibility between physical and digital gaming. The models come with a 1TB SSD and are priced at €549.99 with a disk drive and €449.99 without. For those opting for the digital-only model, a separate disk drive can be purchased for €119.99. These new models are set to replace the original versions and offer consumers a refreshed option in the PlayStation 5 lineup.
