John Carpenter, famous for directing films like Halloween and The Thing, has refuted his title as the master of horror. In a recent interview, Carpenter expressed indifference towards his fame in the horror genre, stating he only wants to play video games and watch basketball. The iconic director is currently promoting his upcoming TV series, John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams, but doesn't seem too bothered about publicizing it.
Carpenter did share insights about the horror genre, emphasizing that good storytelling is the most important aspect of creating a horror film rather than focusing on jump scares. He highlighted famous horror directors including Jordan Peele and David Gordon Green, and discussed the evolution of horror cinematography, tracing its beginnings from Dracula and Frankenstein to the turning point of Psycho in 1960 and subsequent game changers like Night of the Living Dead and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
