James Gunn's DC Universe Starts Dec 2024 With Creature Commandos

James Gunn has officially announced that "Creature Commandos," the first project in the new DC Universe, will debut on Max in December 2024. This animated series marks the launch of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in the revamped DCU. Gunn revealed this during an interaction on Threads, confirming that the show—a quirky take on the DC Universe—will feature a team of supernatural creatures like a vampire, a werewolf, and a gorgon, all assembled by Suicide Squad’s Amanda Waller. The voice cast includes notable names such as Frank Grillo, David Harbour, and Indira Varma.

"Creature Commandos" follows a black ops team composed of supernatural prisoners such as a vampire, a werewolf, and a gorgon. The team is assembled by Amanda Waller of Suicide Squad fame and will feature in an animated series comprising seven episodes, releasing in December 2024 on Max.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are leading the transformation of the DCU, with "Creature Commandos" being the first major series under their guidance. This project sets the tone for Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Following it, a new Superman movie, titled "Superman: Legacy," is slated for release on July 11, 2025. The forthcoming film will explore a young Superman's adventures while incorporating numerous other DC heroes and villains, though it won't be an origin story.
