Jack Black Almost Voiced a Talking Pig in Minecraft

In a surprising twist for fans of the upcoming A Minecraft Movie, Jack Black's initial role was intended to be a talking pig. Mojang's senior director of original content, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, revealed that the decision to have Black portray Steve came very late in the development process. The team sought an expert personality, ultimately picking Black for his engaging presence. Ólafsson acknowledged that many fans felt Black didn't embody Steve but rather presented his own interpretation of the character. Despite concerns, Black immersed himself in the game, dedicating over 100 hours to playing Minecraft on set and showing enthusiasm for elements like lapis lazuli. The movie's release is slated for April 4, 2025, and along with this announcement, a special A Minecraft Movie in-game Hero Pack has been launched as a tie-in.
