Deus Ex voice actor Elias Toufexis has shared that he was initially hired to voice the protagonist in Bethesda's ambitious RPG Starfield, but the developers later opted for a silent protagonist similar to their approach in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Despite this change in direction, Bethesda retained Toufexis and Cissy Jones (another voice actor initially involved) to provide voices for companions named Andreja and Sam Coe in the game.

Toufexis expressed his appreciation for Bethesda's decision to keep them on the project, noting that it's rare for game studios to maintain roles for actors after such changes. He also mentioned that the 'effort' sounds made by the player's character in the game are still his own. In a playful nod, he pointed out that when players are accompanied by the companion Sam Coe, both characters will make the same noises he recorded for the protagonist's efforts.

In addition to this Starfield news, Toufexis reiterated his interest in returning to the role of Adam Jensen from the Deus Ex franchise, amidst rumors of a new installment in development by Eidos Montreal. He also shared a past experience where he wasn't selected to provide motion capture for Jensen, despite being the voice of the character, stating that developers cited a height difference as the reason.

These insights provide a glimpse into the often complex and changing world of voice acting within the game development process and highlight Bethesda’s unique approach to character voices in Starfield, alongside the potential future of the Deus Ex series.
