GTA 4 Remaster in the Works Rockstar Insider Drops Big Hint

May 12, 2025 2:27 PM

Rumors are swirling about a potential port of Grand Theft Auto 4 for current-gen consoles, as a well-known Rockstar leaker suggests the re-release could arrive later this year. This speculation comes on the heels of the news that GTA 6's release has been delayed. The leaker indicated that Rockstar's plans might include a Max Payne 3 port following the GTA 4 launch. Additionally, the recent takedown of the Liberty City Preservation Project mod may hint at Rockstar's intentions to create an official version of Liberty City for modern consoles. Fans remain excited about this possible return to Liberty City while they await more information about GTA 6.

Will Grand Theft Auto 4 be remastered for modern consoles?

While a remaster has not been officially confirmed, rumors from a reputable leaker suggest that a GTA 4 port may be in development for current-gen consoles, potentially releasing later this year.

Grand Theft Auto 4, originally released in 2008, is renowned for its immersive story and rich open-world gameplay. Its protagonist, Niko Bellic, navigates the game's dark themes and moral choices, which resonated with players. The game's setting, Liberty City, is a fictionalized version of New York City and remains a fan-favorite locale. A port would allow both new and nostalgic players to experience this classic in modern graphics and performance.

A GTA 4 port would be sick, but I hope they don't pull a Definitive Edition again—Liberty City deserves better than janky physics and weird facial animations. Also, low-key hoping they sneak in some multiplayer fixes so we can relive those chaotic online days.

Honestly, I'd love to see Liberty City with modern polish—Niko's story still hits hard, and a current-gen port could finally do it justice. Though, after the GTA Trilogy remasters, I hope Rockstar takes their time to get this one right.
