GOG Axes Warcraft 1 and 2, Offers Discounts and Support

Dec 02, 2024 4:14 PM

GOG has announced the delisting of the classic titles Warcraft 1 and 2 at Blizzard's request, effective December 13. These games were recently added to GOG's Preservation Program, designed to ensure their longevity. Owners will continue to receive technical support and a seamless gaming experience. A discount code "MakeWarcraftLiveForever" is available for new buyers, offering a $2 discount on the bundle. This move comes shortly after Blizzard's release of remastered versions of both games on Battle.net. GOG has pledged to maintain compatibility for preserved games, even if they're removed from sale.

Why are Warcraft 1 and 2 being delisted from GOG?

The games are being delisted at Blizzard's request, likely due to the recent release of remastered versions, as part of efforts to streamline their availability.

Warcraft 1 and 2, originally released in the 1990s, are seminal real-time strategy games that significantly influenced the genre and set the stage for later titles, including World of Warcraft. Blizzard has revitalized interest in these classic games through modern remasters, showcasing the enduring legacy of the Warcraft franchise.
