He criticized the lack of originality in today's film industry, emphasizing that contemporary movies and streaming content are heavily reliant on rehashing old ideas rather than introducing new concepts. Lucas highlighted that this issue isn't confined to cinema but spans across various creative industries. He reminisced about the huge success of "Star Wars," a saga known for its numerous sequels and spinoffs, which he believes have strayed from the original vision since he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012.
