From GTA to IoT: Lazlow Jones’ Shocking Next Move

Former Rockstar developer Lazlow Jones has ventured into new territory following his exit from the company famous for Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption. His new venture, Absurd Ventures, is focused on creating content inspired by the internet of things. This includes an audio science fiction series named "A Better Paradise," a graphic novel called "American Caper," and a much-anticipated open-world action-adventure game. Alongside Dan Houser, another former Rockstar heavyweight, Jones aims to satirize the future with these new projects. Despite the scope and ambition typical of Rockstar productions, Jones clarifies that Absurd Ventures is not competing directly with the GTA or Red Dead series. A Better Paradise, featuring voices like Andrew Lincoln from The Walking Dead, delves into themes involving AI and customized game experiences, providing a commentary on a potentially near-future reality.

Lazlow Jones left Rockstar soon after learning his sister had terminal cancer. He became her primary caregiver, prompting him to reassess his priorities. This personal challenge, combined with the rigors of his work, led him to step back from the demanding environment of Rockstar and eventually co-found Absurd Ventures.

The collaborative effort of Dan Houser and Lazlow Jones at Rockstar was integral to shaping some of the most influential games in modern times. Houser, a key figure in writing and developing the narratives of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, departed Rockstar in 2020, three years before Jones' departure. Their new company, Absurd Ventures, aims to bring fresh, innovative narratives to the gaming and entertainment world, promising a creative synergy reminiscent of their Rockstar days but with a focus on future-forward concepts and satire.
