Fortnite Returns to Apple Devices Soon

Jan 26, 2024 10:09 AM

Epic Games announces that Fortnite is making its return to iOS devices in Europe later this year, thanks to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) which mandates companies like Apple to allow alternative app stores on their platforms. Following this development, Epic plans to launch its own storefront on iOS. However, Epic's CEO, Tim Sweeney, expresses dissatisfaction because Apple still intends to charge developers for in-app purchases made in these new app stores.

Additionally, the DMA will force Apple to permit streaming apps on its platform, potentially paving the way for apps like Xbox Cloud Gaming to be downloadable in the near future. The Digital Markets Act is set to come into effect in March, but the specific date for Fortnite's reavailability on iOS has not been confirmed, with Epic likely aiming to minimize the delay.

When will Fortnite be available on iOS in Europe?

Fortnite is expected to become available on iOS devices in Europe later this year following the enforcement of the Digital Markets Act in March, but an exact date has not been provided.

Fortnite, initially released in 2017 by Epic Games, quickly became one of the most popular online multiplayer games. Known for its battle royale mode, Fortnite blends combat, survival, and building elements to create a dynamic gaming experience. The game has continuously evolved through its various seasons, implementing new gameplay mechanics, items, and crossover events with popular culture franchises, ensuring that its content remains fresh and engaging for players worldwide.
