Doom: The Dark Ages Drops Next Year

Jun 09, 2024 5:14 PM

During the Xbox Games Showcase, iD Software unveiled their upcoming project, Doom: The Dark Ages, set to release in 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. This new installment in the Doom series, previously codenamed Year Zero, introduces a chainsaw shield and takes place in a quasi-medieval time period. As the first game developed by iD Software under Microsoft's ownership of Bethesda and Zenimax, Doom: The Dark Ages continues the franchise's fast-paced combat while learning from the criticisms of Doom Eternal's challenging game flow and platforming sections.

When is Doom: The Dark Ages releasing?

Doom: The Dark Ages is scheduled to release in 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Doom Eternal, released in 2020, was a direct sequel to the 2016 reboot and received positive reception despite criticisms for its difficulty and platforming elements. With the Microsoft acquisition of Bethesda and Zenimax in 2020, anticipation for iD Software's next project has been high, and the reveal of Doom: The Dark Ages marks a significant milestone in the Doom series' evolution.
