Day one of the New York Comic Con 2023 presented a thrilling sneak peek into the upcoming horror movie, The Strangers: Chapter 1, giving fans insights into some ambitious plans behind the project.

Unlike the 2008 original about a home invasion that starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, this film is not merely a remake or reboot. Instead, it forms a trilogy directed by the legendary Renny Harlin and produced by Courtney Solomon. These movies expand the franchise with a keen focus on evolution and connectivity across all three chapters.

The creators made a thrilling revelation in a Q&A session about having already finished filming all three parts and the possible release of the trilogy in 2024, pending Lionsgate's approval. However, they were a bit more secretive when it came to discussing plot details of the latter two films.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 features Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) and Froy Gutierrez (Teen Wolf, Cruel Summer). The story follows a couple's journey to start afresh in the Pacific Northwest, a dream shattered by the horrifying encounter with individuals donning creepy masks.

Harlin, associated with iconic horror cinema like A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and the audience-loved Deep Blue Sea, Die Hard 2, shared his enchantment for the genre. He expressed his excitement to take on the project with the idea of keeping fans as well as the new audience in mind.

Besides Petsch's impressive performance, what also grabbed the audience's attention at the convention were the meticulously created masks, reminiscent of the 2008 original but with slight modern touches. Harlin stated that the challenge of getting these masks perfect added a level of anxiety to the filmmaking process.

The trilogy is a continuum with each movie starting immediately where the earlier one ended, spanning over just a few days' timeline. Harlin and Solomon also shared that the third movie would reveal the origin of the Strangers from the original film, hinting at a completely overhauled intense finale that is bound to leave the audience spellbound.
