Jul 26, 2024 10:36 PM

DC Studios has revealed a brand-new logo at San Diego Comic-Con, inspired by Milton Glaser's iconic 1977 "DC Bullet" logo, which was used until 2005. James Gunn and Peter Safran always intended to pay homage to this classic design. Jim Lee expressed excitement about the logo's return, associating it with DC's heyday in the 1980s during the release of significant titles like "Watchmen" and "The Dark Knight Returns." This new logo will appear on comics, toys, and merchandise starting in October 2024. A new motion graphic featuring an animation of Superman by co-creator Joe Shuster has also been introduced. The first title to use this will be "Superman," premiering in July 2025. Additionally, the teaser trailer for the Max Original Series "Creature Commandos" was unveiled, showcasing various characters such as The Bride and Frankenstein, set to premiere in December as the first official DCU project.

What inspired the new DC Studios logo?

The new DC Studios logo is inspired by Milton Glaser's 1977 "DC Bullet" logo, which was used from 1977 to 2005 and is associated with a significant era in DC's history, particularly the 1980s renaissance.

Background Information: The return to using a design inspired by Milton Glaser’s iconic "DC Bullet" emphasizes DC Studios' intent to honor its storied past while charting a new path forward. Milton Glaser, known for his impactful graphic designs, created the original logo during a pivotal period for DC Comics, which included the releases of landmark comics that shaped the industry. The animated motion graphic featuring Superman is also a nod to the character’s rich history, linking back to its co-creator Joe Shuster, further solidifying the studio's commitment to legacy while introducing fresh content. The introduction of "Creature Commandos," featuring lesser-known DC characters, showcases DC Studios' strategy to explore various facets of the DC Universe beyond its primary superheroes.
