Creator Claims Amazon's Concord Animation Showcases Untapped Potential

Nov 12, 2024 4:10 PM

Amazon's upcoming animated anthology series, Secret Level, will feature an episode based on the ill-fated video game Concord. This gaming project, developed by Firewalk Studios under Sony, was launched as a live service hero shooter but faced disastrous performance, leading to its shutdown just two weeks post-release. Tim Miller, the series' creator, emphasized the talented development team behind Concord, expressing confusion over its failure despite significant investment—estimated around $200 million for development. The Secret Level episode aims to showcase the potential of Concord's narrative and characters, offering fans a glimpse into what could have been had the game succeeded.

What happened to Concord?

Concord was shut down by Sony shortly after launch due to extremely low player engagement and poor reviews, ultimately resulting in the closure of Firewalk Studios.

Concord's ambitious design aimed to mix dynamic gameplay with cinematic storytelling, featuring a rich sci-fi universe. However, the game's poor reception marked it as a significant failure for Sony, becoming one of PlayStation's largest misfires in recent memory. The projected potential within the game has since been repurposed into the Secret Level series, which might be the last remaining content related to Concord.
