The release date for the remastered version of Star Wars: Dark Forces has been confirmed for February 28, 2024. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.
Originally released in 1995, Star Wars: Dark Forces is a popular first-person shooter by LucasArts. The upcoming remaster has been nearly 30 years in the making, under the specialist remastering company, Nightdive Studios. The studio is known for its successful remakes of System Shock and the Turok and Quake remasters.
The remastered Star Wars: Dark Forces will feature upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for console gamepads with platform-specific features. It will run on modern gaming systems with up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second, excluding the Switch version.
The game takes place through the perspective of Kyle Katarn, a defector of the Empire who becomes a mercenary. In the intricate story, Katarn joins the Rebel Alliance, infiltrates the Empire, and stumbles upon the Dark Trooper Project, a powerful new series of Imperial battle droids and power-armoured stormtroopers. These elements later emerged in The Mandalorian TV show in 2020.
The remastered game will offer a range of key features including up to 4K 120FPS visuals on selected platforms, advanced 3D rendering for realistic lighting and atmospheric effects, support for modern gamepad controls, and various achievements and trophies on Windows PC via Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.
