Apr 11, 2024 9:12 AM

The highly anticipated sequel to the renowned post-apocalyptic films, 28 Years Later, is taking shape with original screenwriter Alex Garland and director Danny Boyle reuniting to kickstart a new trilogy. Renowned for directing the successful Candyman sequel, Nia DaCosta is currently in talks to direct the subsequent installment, following the planned filming of the first sequel by Boyle later this year. Cillian Murphy, star of the original 28 Days Later, is not only exec producing but may also reprise his role. While casting rumors suggest Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes may join the project, official confirmations are yet to be made, with further developments expected in the upcoming weeks.

Who is being considered to direct the sequel to 28 Years Later?

Nia DaCosta, known for her work on the Candyman sequel, is reportedly in discussions to helm the second movie in the new 28 Years Later trilogy.

28 Days Later, released in 2002, was a groundbreaking film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland. It reinvigorated the zombie genre with its fast-paced infected and gritty, realistic portrayal of a post-apocalyptic Britain. Its sequel, 28 Weeks Later, expanded upon the outbreak, showing an attempted repopulation of London gone awry. The announcement of 28 Years Later revives the franchise with a compelling new storyline that has potential for long-time fans and new audiences alike, especially with the return of the original creative minds and the fresh perspective of Nia DaCosta.
