Buzz About The New Voice For Mario Emerges But The Actor Denies It

Oct 12, 2023 10:50 PM
The rumor mill has been buzzing about who will take over the voice acting role for Mario after the long-time voice actor, Charles Martinet, announced his retirement. The internet seemed to land on a consensus that Mick Wingert would be the new Mario. However, throughout a strange journey of speculation and rumor debunking, Wingert has publicly denied that he will be voicing the iconic Nintendo character.

The buzz began with an unconfirmed list of actors set to contribute to the upcoming game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder. This list didn't specify the roles for each actor, leaving room for all kinds of speculation. Many detective-minded fans of the franchise painstakingly analysed this list, considering each actor's previous roles and their likely character fit.

In the end, the two names left standing were Mick Wingert and Kevin Afghani. Given Wingert's extensive experience in the field, he seemed the most likely choice for playing not just Mario, but also related characters like Baby Mario, Luigi, and Wario. However, Wingert's agent confirmed that while he couldn't discuss his potential involvement in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, he definitely would not be voicing Mario.

In response, fans and internet sleuths were left stumped, with a myriad of possibilities for Mario's new voice. Could Mario be a she? Could it be Luis Barros or Paolo de Santis, who have voiced previously for Nintendo? Nintendo remains tight-lipped about who will take on the iconic voice, adding to the speculative intrigue.

Charles Martinet voiced Mario since 1994, beginning with 'Mario Teaches Typing.' His retirement means a significant change in the iconic character's voice in upcoming games. However, Martinet will not completely separate from the character as he will continue his involvement as "Mario Ambassador," a role about which there is still much uncertainty.

In the meantime, everyone is left with one big question: who is, or more appropriately, who will be Mario?
