Avowed dev compares to The Outer Worlds, not Skyrim

Jun 24, 2024 3:03 PM

Obsidian Entertainment, the acclaimed studio behind Fallout New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, is addressing comparisons between its upcoming game, Avowed, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In an interview, game director Carrie Patel suggested fans should look at The Outer Worlds for a more accurate comparison regarding the game's scope and layout. Unlike Skyrim's open-world map, Avowed will feature open zones connected and unlocked over time, similar to The Outer Worlds. Gameplay director Gabe Paramo also expressed his preference for explaining Avowed's unique features without drawing direct comparisons to other games. Obsidian's initial pitch for Avowed aimed for a larger scale akin to Skyrim, but it evolved into a more focused experience. The game is set in the Pillars of Eternity universe and promises first-person melee and magic combat with dialogue choices, but no romance options.

When is the release date for Avowed?n

Avowed is set to release on November 12, 2024.

Avowed takes place in the same world as Obsidian's earlier titles, Pillars of Eternity. This universe features a rich lore and detailed world-building, with a focus on deep narrative elements and engaging role-playing mechanics. By leveraging this established setting, Avowed is poised to deliver an immersive RPG experience that blends familiar mechanics with innovative new gameplay features.
