Arrowhead Acknowledges Overpowered Fire Damage in Helldivers 2, Promises Fix

Apr 15, 2024 11:08 AM

Helldivers 2, the action-packed shooter game developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, has been facing community backlash due to an issue with excessive fire damage. An update that introduced new environmental hazards like blizzards and sandstorms also inadvertently increased fire damage to a level where players could die within seconds of coming into contact with fire. This gameplay imbalance has caused frustration among the Helldivers 2 player base, prompting complaints and calls for a fix.

In response to player concerns, the game's community manager Thomas 'Twinbeard' Petersson confirmed on the official Discord channel that the development team is actively working on rebalancing fire damage. Petersson assured players that the fixes are in progress, saying, "We are going through ‘fire as a whole’ at the moment," pointing out that the solution involves adjusting factors like damage per second, damage over time, and ensuring fire doesn't instantly kill players upon contact. Although no specific date for the fix has been provided, it is clear that Arrowhead is taking the feedback seriously and is committed to improving the gameplay experience.

Furthermore, Arrowhead has also announced that they will be overhauling Helldivers 2's reward system. In addition to these updates, new ship module upgrades were recently added to the game, including one that humorously teaches the crew efficient box packing—a change seemingly minor but potentially beneficial to gameplay in the long run. For trophy hunters, the return of the Automatons is a significant development, ensuring that players can still achieve the coveted platinum trophy.

What kind of gameplay can players expect in Helldivers 2?

Helldivers 2 offers a fast-paced top-down shooter experience, where teamwork and strategy are essential for combating interstellar enemies. As players progress, they can unlock and upgrade a diverse array of weapons and equipment. The game also features challenging environmental conditions that players must navigate, adding depth and variety to the gameplay. With Arrowhead's continued support and updates, players can anticipate a more balanced and rewarding experience as issues like the fire damage are addressed.

As a background, Helldivers 2 is a sequel to the original Helldivers, which was very well-received for its cooperative multiplayer gameplay and its satirical take on militaristic sci-fi action. Set within a dystopian future, players work as part of the elite Helldivers unit tasked with protecting "Super Earth" by battling enemy species across various planets. Featuring both a single-player and cooperative multiplayer mode, Helldivers 2 continues the franchise's legacy of intense action and strategic gameplay.
