ARIANA GRANDE Joins Wicked in Debut Trailer

Feb 12, 2024 12:14 PM

Fans of musicals have a reason to be excited as the first trailer for "Wicked Part 1" has been released, providing a glimpse into the upcoming movie adaptation of the beloved stage show. The trailer debuted during the Super Bowl, showcasing stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Galinda Upland. Though the trailer was scant on singing, there was a hint of the iconic track "Defying Gravity." Directed by Jon M. Chu, known for an eclectic mix of films, and produced by Marc Platt and David Stone, "Wicked Part 1" is slated to hit theaters on November 27, with its sequel following a year later. Despite initial plans for a single film, the decision to create two parts was made to avoid compromising the integrity of the source material.

When is "Wicked Part 1" scheduled for release?

"Wicked Part 1" is scheduled to be released in cinemas on November 27 of this year.

"Wicked" the musical, the source material for the upcoming films, has been a Broadway sensation since its debut in 2003. It tells the story of the witches from L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" in a prequel-like fashion, focusing on their backgrounds and how they came to be known as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch. The musical has won numerous awards, including three Tony Awards and a Grammy Award. Ariana Grande, playing Galinda, is an example of celebrity casting in film adaptations of musicals, as she brings not only her vocal talent but also a significant fan base to the movie.
