ArcheAge to Bid Farewell on June 27 as Servers Close

Apr 27, 2024 4:14 PM

Kakao Games has announced the unfortunate closure of the European and North American servers for the MMORPG ArcheAge, slated for June 27, 2024. This decision comes as a result of a continuous decline in the active players base, which has affected the accessibility and experience of the game as originally intended. To commemorate the game's run and show appreciation to the community, an ArcheAge Sunset event is currently underway, providing players with free top-tier equipment and other growth materials until the servers shut down. However, refunds for unused Credits and recent purchases will be limited, with certain conditions applying.

Developed by XL Games and released in 2014, ArcheAge is known for its open-world sandbox environment that allows for extensive player freedom, including housing, trading, and combat. In light of the server shutdowns, compensations are being offered in the form of in-game boosts and a significant Marketplace Sale event with an 80% discount. The inability to transfer in-game data to different regions, unfortunately, remains a stipulation. ArcheAge 2 is currently under development and is anticipated to feature improvements over its predecessor, focusing on visual upgrades, trading, housing, and enhanced customization.

Will there be any sequel to ArcheAge?

Yes, ArcheAge 2 is currently in development and is expected to bring upgraded visuals, improved trading and housing systems, as well as enhanced customization options.

As background information, ArcheAge was a pioneering title in the MMORPG genre, distinguished by its sandbox-style gameplay which allowed players considerable freedom to shape the virtual world. Creator Jake Song, notable for his work on Lineage, and his team at XL Games introduced innovative mechanics such as a player-driven economy, naval warfare, and an intricate legal system. As the gaming community looks forward to ArcheAge 2, many are hopeful for an experience that builds on the unique features that originally set ArcheAge apart within the MMO space.
