Animation Guild Strikes Tentative Deal on AI Guardrails

The Animation Guild (TAG) has reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) after extensive negotiations focusing on key issues like AI protections, wages, working conditions, and staffing minimums. This new three-year contract addresses various concerns stemming from the rise of generative AI in the industry. Significant wins include enhanced AI regulations, health and pension benefits, wage increases, remote work protections, and recognition of Juneteenth as a holiday. However, the agreement requires ratification by TAG members before it becomes final. As the animation industry grapples with challenges such as layoffs and underpayment, this contract represents a major step towards securing better working conditions for animators.
