This book is part of The Empyrean series, which has gained massive popularity, selling over 12 million copies worldwide. The series centers around Violet Sorrengail, who aspires to become a dragon rider while navigating the treacherous landscape of Basgiath War College. The previous showrunner, Moira Walley-Beckett, stepped down in July 2025, making way for Averill, known for her work on popular series like Locke and Key and The Haunting of Hill House. Production for Fourth Wing is led by Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, with development ongoing since October 2023.
