Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember gets a release date of March 4, 2027 and a free alpha demo

What happened

Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo have announced the release date for Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember. The action game is scheduled for March 4, 2027, and will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher also says the Xbox version will be available day one through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. That gives the game a wide platform rollout, with both consoles and PC included in the initial announcement.

At the same time, a free playable alpha demo has gone live on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The trial version is available for a limited time until September 30, 2026, and includes a character creator that is still in development, plus online multiplayer for up to three players. The trailer description also says players can fill out a survey after playing, allowing Team Ninja to gather feedback on the test build.

The playable section takes place in the open fields of Changban. There, players fight alongside Liu Bei’s army against Cao Cao’s forces and encounter demons inspired by classic Chinese literature. The trailer and accompanying description present this as a full level section from the game, meant to show more of the experience than just a standalone combat arena. Anyone who completes the demo will receive the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet as a cosmetic reward in the full game.

Background

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember is the sequel to Wo Long, which launched in early 2023. The series continues in a historical Chinese setting, with Team Ninja using well-known figures such as Liu Bei and Cao Cao alongside supernatural elements. The new game builds on that setup by using another Three Kingdoms-era battlefield as the backdrop for the demo.

The alpha demo is designed as an early test version and lets players try not only combat, but also the character creator and three-player online co-op. The trailer description says the demo includes a survey, suggesting Team Ninja wants to collect feedback during the test period. The reward for completing the demo, the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet, is a cosmetic item for the full game.
