New Uncharted game at Naughty Dog: Nathan Drake and Shaun Escayg mentioned in rumors

Multiple reports say Naughty Dog is working on a new Uncharted game. Nathan Drake may return and Shaun Escayg is reportedly involved, but nothing is official.

  • The reports mention Nathan Drake and Shaun Escayg, but their exact roles in the project remain unclear.
  • The sources describe a new entry in the series rather than a remake, and the project is said to still be in an early stage.

What happened

On September 30, 2026, MP1st reported that Naughty Dog is working on a new Uncharted project. The story was then picked up by outlets including Kotaku, IGN, Gamerant, and PlayStation Lifestyle, all of which presented it as a rumor. In the sources provided, there is no official response from Naughty Dog or PlayStation.

According to the reporting, Nathan Drake would return in the project, but it is not clear whether he would once again be the lead, be playable, or only make a brief appearance. There is also no clarity yet on where the story would sit in the timeline: the rumors mention both a prequel and a sequel.

A second name that keeps coming up is Shaun Escayg. He is mentioned in several reports as the possible lead on the project, while the game is said to still be in an early development phase. NateTheHate also wrote on X that he understands the rumor to mean Naughty Dog would move on to a new Uncharted game after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

The available sources do not mention a release date, platforms, or an official title. What is clear is that the reporting points to a new entry rather than a remake of an existing Uncharted game. Until Naughty Dog or PlayStation makes an announcement, the project remains unconfirmed.

Background

The last mainline game in the series was Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in 2016. That was followed in 2017 by Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and later by re-releases such as the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. That means it has been years since Naughty Dog released a fully new mainline entry.

Shaun Escayg is no stranger to the franchise. In the provided context, he is described as the creative force behind Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and as someone who also worked on The Last of Us Part I. That makes his name a logical fit for a rumor about a new Uncharted project, but the sources do not confirm that he is actually leading it.

Naughty Dog has also recently highlighted Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet in its communications. In the sources provided, that game is mentioned as the title that would be finished first before the studio fully turns to a new Uncharted entry. There is no connection in the sources to a new film or other spin-off.
