Twitch introduces dual-format streaming and new features

Twitch has announced that it will launch dual-format streaming next month, a new feature that lets creators stream simultaneously in both horizontal and vertical formats. The feature was unveiled during TwitchCon Europe 2026 and is designed to optimize the viewing experience for both desktop and mobile users.

The announcement came alongside positive feedback from beta testing, where significant performance improvements were made. Dual Format uses Enhanced Broadcasting technology, which makes it possible to encode multiple stream variants for viewers. When the feature rolls out next month, server-side transcoding support will also become available for partners and many affiliates to help ease server load.

Improvements to streaming quality

Twitch also announced that it is expanding 2K (1440p) streaming to all partners and affiliates. This rollout will be accompanied by improved bitrate support, better notifications, and a new feature called Stream Summaries. This feature generates a short recap of what happened during a broadcast, which could help boost viewer engagement.

New features and tools for creators

Twitch is also continuing to invest in Clips with the introduction of Auto Clips, which automatically generates captions from key moments in a stream. In addition, updates are rolling out for Stories, including stream recap options and improved clip surfacing across the platform. Tier 2 and tier 3 subscribers will also get .gifs in chat.

Financial benefits for streamers in Europe

A major change for European streamers is the confirmation that SEPA payments now remove currency exchange fees, resulting in lower transfer costs. More details on the rollout of these changes are expected soon.
