The Super Mario Galaxy Movie now available digitally

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is now available to rent or buy on digital platforms such as Prime Video. The digital release was originally planned for May 5, but was delayed to capitalize on its box office success. It’s easy to see why: the film is currently known as the highest-grossing film of 2026.

Digital availability

Consumers can rent the film for $24.99 or buy it for $29.99. A rental gives viewers 48 hours to watch the movie once playback begins. A purchase also includes more than an hour of digital behind-the-scenes extras. Prime Video is also offering a bundle of both Super Mario movies for $39.99.

Details about the film

The movie continues the story of the first Super Mario film and introduces plenty of new characters and elements, including Brie Larson as Rosalina and Donald Glover as Yoshi. A notable addition is Glen Powell, who appears as Star Fox, which came before the announcement of a Star Fox remake for Switch 2.

Reviews and reception

While the sequel didn’t reach the same critical heights as the original film, it was described as “bigger and brighter” with plenty of Easter eggs that enrich the story. Critics praised the first Super Mario Galaxy games, which were re-released on Switch ahead of the movie.

Future releases

Peacock will be the first streaming home for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, but no specific date has been announced yet. Based on the timeline for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the sequel will likely arrive on Peacock later this summer. After four months on Peacock, the film will move to Netflix.

The movie will also be available on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD in June, with a limited-edition 4K steelbook in the style of Rosalina’s Storybook.
