Intelligence Summary
- Find out where to get gold in Subnautica 2 and how to use it effectively.
Where to find gold in Subnautica 2
In Subnautica 2, the planet Proteus offers a wide range of resources to gather, but minerals hold a special place among them. Minerals like Titanium, Copper, and Silver are essential for a variety of crafting recipes. However, gold is one of the hardest minerals to find in the game.
Gold in Subnautica 2
Gold isn’t used very often in Subnautica 2, but then you suddenly need it for a crafting recipe and realize you’re not sure where to find it. It’s important to note that gold doesn’t appear in random locations like many other minerals.
Gold location
Gold can be found in the high-temperature biome, located about 300 meters directly east of the starting lifepod. If you travel there too early, you’ll see a heat warning on your HUD, and the PDA AI will tell you that you need an adaptation to progress further into the high-temperature biome.
Fortunately, the required adaptation, the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, is relatively easy to obtain by curing the right Angel Comb and interacting with it. After getting heat tolerance, which is one of the three different adaptations in Subnautica 2, you can safely enter the high-temperature waters east of the lifepod. However, you’ll still want to avoid the thermal vents, since your new tolerance only protects you up to around 100 degrees Celsius.
How to mine gold
Luckily, gold can be found easily around the high-temperature biome. There are some gold ore deposits scattered across the orange and brown rocks, as well as Gold Outcrops that you can mine with the Sonic Resonator. Gold has a distinct look compared to other minerals; it’s shinier and has holes running through the deposit. At first, you might confuse it with sulfur or even salt, but after a few encounters it becomes easy to recognize.
Uses for gold in Subnautica 2
As for what gold is used for in Subnautica 2, you’ll mainly need it to craft an Advanced Wiring Kit, which requires one gold, one wiring kit, and one sulfur. The Advanced Wiring Kit is essential for creating the Dedicated Core, an advanced piece of technology in the game.
In most cases, one inventory full of gold will be enough for most of your time on Proteus. Finding gold can be challenging, but with this information, you should be able to track it down more easily.
